How To Shine Up The Light Covers On A Ceiling Fan The Easy Way

Posted on

When people move out of a home, they probably clean the place up as best they can. However, some things often go without cleaning because they aren't usually in the line of sight of the person doing the job. Ceiling fans are one of these items. If your moving into a home and the ceiling fan has beautiful glass coverings around the light bulbs, you might want to clean and shine them. This guide provides you with step-by-step instructions to clean the ceiling fan light covers with a few simple supplies.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

  • vacuum cleaner with attachments
  • a blow Dryer
  • an extension cord
  • an empty spray bottle
  • vodka
  • water
  • a couple old bath towels

Step 2: Create the Mixture

Pour the vodka into the spray bottle until the bottle is about a quarter of the way full. Fill the rest of the bottle with water.

Place the sprayer on the bottle and shake the ingredients together. Prime the spray bottle by pumping it a few times into the sink. Make sure that you do not leave the vodka unattended while you clean the light covers if children or pets are nearby.

Step 3: Vacuum the Lights

Connect your vacuum cleaner attachment to the unit and vacuum as much dust and dirt off the ceiling fan light covers as you can.

Step 4: Spray the Mixture on the Light Covers

Turn the power to the fan off. Lay the bath towels on the floor directly below the ceiling fan. Lightly spray the mixture on the light fixtures.  A few sprays should do the trick. Try not to overspray the mixture because you don't want it dripping off the fan and all over your floor. The towels are there to soak up any of the mixture that might fall.

The mixture quickly loosens stuck-on dirt and dust on the light fixtures that the vacuum cleaner did not get. You won't need to wait long before continuing to the next step.

Step 5: Dry the Mixture

Plug the extension cord into the wall and then plug in the blow dryer. Set the blow dryer on high and dry the ceiling fan until you've dried up the mixture and blown away remaining dirt and dust.

The towels catch the majority of the dirt and dust, so you shouldn't need to clean up any other areas once the covers are dry. But just in case, use the towels to wipe up any dirt and dust that finds its way to other places.

When you're finished enjoy the sparkle from your glass ceiling fan light covers.  Ask your property clean up professional for help if you should run into any issues with these steps.
