3 Methods For Removing A Red Wine Carpet Stain

Posted on

If you have carpeting in your home, you are already familiar with the challenge of removing stains before they set in. This is especially true of stains that are red in color. Red wine can be a very frustrating stain to remove from your home's carpeting, but it is not impossible. Quickly use one of these three methods before the stain sets into your carpeting.

Vinegar Method

Start by grabbing a clean and dry cloth, and immediately blot up the red wine. You can do this by placing the cloth over the stain and pressing down firmly on it. Make sure not to rub the stain, as you can spread it around and affect more of the carpet.

After removing as much liquid as you can, mix the following ingredients together.

  • Warm water – 2 cups
  • Dish soap – 1 tbsp
  • White vinegar – 1 tbsp

Use a sponge to apply your cleaning solution to the stain. Then you can blot up the solution using a white cloth. You should keep blotting until the stain shows up on your white cloth, as it lets you know that the stain is coming out. Continue applying the solution and blotting it up until the stain is completely gone.

Hydrogen Peroxide Method

Using the hydrogen peroxide method will work best if your carpeting is light beige, cream, or white colored. Using hydrogen peroxide with darker carpeting may cause white spots to appear, which will cause an unsightly blemish on your carpeting.

Mix the following ingredients in a bowl to make the cleaning solution.

  • Hydrogen Peroxide – 2 tbsp
  • Dish soap – 1 tbsp
  • Warm water – 1 tbsp

It is a very small amount, but it can be very effective. Be sure to test the solution on a small part of your carpeting that is inconspicuous to see if it alters the color. To use the solution, simply pour it directly onto the stain and blot it up just like with the vinegar method.

White Wine Method

Believe it or not, but white wine can actually be used to clean a red wine stain. Pour no more than a half cup on the red wine stain, and blot both wines with a white cloth. Other alcohols like vodka will work in the same way by preventing the stain from spreading and lifting it out of the carpet.

If you've tried all three methods and still cannot get that stain out, you may need the help of a professional carpet cleaner (such as A-1 Cleaning By Happe or another service).
